Project Scope

In six months, EXCEL installed 12,000 feet of cable tray, 13,000 feet of conduit, and 800,000 feet of wire, working across a disjointed site. To meet the deadline, EXCEL worked a 13-1 schedule and increased the workforce from 80 to 150 people. This investment positions Valero for a future with a greater focus on renewables, with EXCEL performing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work.

Project Description

The DGD3 facility is part of a strategy to increase its renewable diesel production capacity to about 1.2 billion gallons annually. EXCEL Group faced significant challenges, including delays, supply chain issues, and complex specifications. Despite these obstacles, EXCEL installed extensive electrical infrastructure and managed a rigorous schedule, often doubling the workforce to meet deadlines. Innovative project management practices, such as field-designed panels and strategic crew division, helped maintain progress. The project, completed on time and budget, highlighted EXCEL's commitment to quality amidst demanding conditions.
